My Wake-Up Call: The Diagnosis That Changed Everything
By the time I was pregnant with my second child, I received a diagnosis that completely threw me off—gestational diabetes. I was disappointed, even angry. This wasn’t the pregnancy experience I had envisioned. I had always been someone who planned everything, but this diagnosis felt like a curveball I wasn’t ready for.
Naturally, I dove into research, determined to understand everything about the condition. Knowledge is power, right? What I found, though, was surprising and even more challenging than I anticipated.
I had always thought my mostly carb-based diet—whole wheat rolls, fiber cereals, skim milk—was healthy, but it turns out, carbs were sending my blood sugar through the roof. I began pricking my finger constantly, tracking everything, and to my dismay, even those “healthy” carbs were causing spikes.
Finding a New Path: Embracing Protein and Healthy Fats
As a result, I made a major shift in my diet, focusing on protein and healthy fats—foods I had always avoided, thinking they would make me gain weight. I was terrified at first, worried about eating butter and sour cream, but slowly, something incredible happened.
I wasn’t tired all the time anymore. I felt more satisfied after meals, and the endless cravings that had once dominated my thoughts faded. For the first time, I didn’t feel obsessed with food. I wasn’t constantly planning my next meal or punishing myself for indulging.
The Best Part: Healthier Pregnancies and Healthy Babies
The biggest confirmation came after giving birth. Not only had I gained minimal weight, but I also found it easier to lose compared to my previous pregnancy. Over time, I had eight more babies, each time managing my gestational diabetes naturally, without needing medication. My babies were all born healthy, and I realized that gestational diabetes had been a blessing in disguise—it led me to a new way of eating and living that made me healthier, happier, and more energized.
Why I Started Nissi’s Health Coaching
This life-changing experience is what inspired me to start Nissi’s Health Coaching. I realized I had discovered something powerful, something that could help other women manage their pregnancies naturally, without feeling deprived or scared.
Through my coaching, I work one-on-one with women, providing personalized guidance to manage diabetes, hypertension, weight, and overall health through holistic approaches. It’s not just about nutrition—it’s about creating balance in your life through mindful movement, stress management, and emotional well-being.
